Fichtelberg Narrow-Gauge Railway
Distance: 2 km on foot, 10 km by car

The Fichtelbergbahn is a picturesque narrow-gauge railway with a track width of 750 mm, connecting the town of Cranzahl with the German spa town of Oberwiesenthal – the highest town in Germany. The 17.35 km line was opened in 1897 and is now a popular tourist attraction, especially for families and railway enthusiasts.

The train ride takes approximately one hour and offers stunning views of the Ore Mountains. During the journey, the train climbs 240 meters in elevation, passes five bridges, and crosses the impressive viaduct in Oberwiesenthal. Several charming stations are located along the route, including Neudorf, Vierenstraße, and Hammerunterwiesenthal.

The train operates daily, and in the summer months, an open observation carriage is available. For children, there is a play car with board games. In addition to regular rides, special themed journeys are offered, such as the “Zuckertütenexpress” for first graders or the evening “Moonlightfahrt”, which combines a night train ride with a candlelit walk.

The Fichtelbergbahn is an ideal way to discover the beauty of the Ore Mountains from a different perspective and experience the charm of a historic railway.
